It all started with a boy in a white cutlass supreme pulling up in front of my house. A confident young man walks up and introduces himself to my parents, then asking me if his shirt smelled like a girl cause he had just gotten back from the girl he had lend it to, {kinda didn't like that part too much} yet off we went. Who knew that that first date would lead to where we are now? Well, to be honest I kinda did and so did he. It was 25 years ago today that McSweetie and I had our first date... walking around the local mall... talking, asking, listening. Going to eat ice cream downtown only to have to hustle back home so I would not be late for my oh so early curfew. {Hi MOM!! I know Anu's was earlier but still!!}
Now we step back and see how God has been in our relationship from day one. From the ups and the downs. The laughter and the tears. Friendships that have blossomed between ourselves and others. The love we have for our two sons. Now so grown up it is hard to even remember when they were little and so dependent on us. Now they are driving off on their own... off with friends... I think this could be the time in Number 1's life that he meets his future wife. Who is she? What is she like? Her parents? Her siblings? Will she like us? Once they are married will they enjoy being around us as much as we enjoy/enjoyed being around our parents and still do? Will they have a strong relationship with Number 2 son and his wife? {Although we can hardly get him to talk about liking a girl... but it is coming. I think spring break 2012 has helped ease him into it}I pray they do. I pray that grandma's house is where cousins come to be friends. Seeing as how I have none and was an only child I pray that the boys will be close. I pray that they will lead their homes in a Godly manner. Loving their wives as Christ loved the church and their wives submitting to their husbands as they do to the Lord.
All this started from that one night so long ago. But I remember it as if it was yesterday. I am BLESSED to call him mine!! Pretty sure he feels the same about me!!
So HAPPY ANNIVERSARY McSweetie! This date leads to all my other FAVORITE days of the year!
